This has to be one of my favorite pages of the first chapter, establishing enough cues of how things work in the home of Sally and Burt Sullivan. But first, here’s Becky Campbell, Trevor’s mother! She’s returning home from her job (well after dinner-time) and you can see how thrilled Trevor is to have her around.

Before Becky’s arrival, though, we get to see Uncle Burt — a bit more approachable since his afternoon introduction a few pages back — instructing Trevor in the fine art of pouring his drink. To be clear, he’s not teaching the boy to pour or drink alcohol for himself, just for “the adults”… but it’s a strange way for the two to relate and, at its worst, might send his 12-year-old nephew some mixed signals about kids and alcohol.

And then lastly, we have Trevor’s cousin Andy looking a bit disgruntled in the background as he’s tackling dinner’s dishes. What goes through Andy’s mind these days? Time will tell.
